How often should you clean a fish tank?

Fish Tank Maintenance explained

Fish tank maintenance is the regular, routine care required to keep an aquarium clean, balanced, and healthy for fish. It primarily involves weekly, fortnightly, or monthly tasks like partial water changes, gravel vacuuming, algae removal, filter cleaning, and water testing to remove waste, control nutrients, and maintain fish health.  It depends on how many fish you have, your type of fish - most tanks require cleaning every 2 weeks.  If you need assistance with this, post a job for ongoing fortnightly Pet Maintenance today.

Cleaning involves:
  1. Syphoning the gravel to remove debris or uneaten food.
  2. Changing about 10-15% of the water. (if saltwater fish, then the water needs to be saltwater)
  3. Check the filter is functioning correctly.
  4. Wiping the glass to remove algae
  5. Check the filter is working correctly.
  6. The filter sponges can be rinsed in water taken from the aquarium to clean them.
  7. If your aquarium is smelly, or you have an algae problem, then clean your aquarium more frequently. However, these signs do indicate a problem that needs to be addressed. Get into the habit of testing your water quality every time you clean out the aquarium to make sure everything is OK.

What do I do with my fish if I need to go on holiday?
If you need to go on holiday and need someone to care for your fish, then your options are: Post a job for Home Visits, OR a House Sitter, OR if your tank is small and portable book pet boarding at a sitter's home. Most Pet Owners will post a job for Home Visits once a day. No card is required to post a job, and police checked available Sitters apply. You arrange a meet and greet. If you feel comfortable with the Sitter, then provide them with a key or put it in a lockbox that they can access using a use while youre away so they can get into your home to feed your fish. Expect to pay about $45 per visit.
